The rhino was born in February at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park in Florida and is the 10th rhino, and first female, born as part of the park’s breeding program for the endangered animal.
Staff from the park’s breeding program have decided to leave the naming of the newborn up to the public with four options to choose from, including Kiama.
White rhinos are native to Kenya, and in the language of the Kikuyu tribe, who also hail from the African nation, it translates to Magic.
The other three options are also Kikuyu words - Alora (my dream), Jama (friend) and Kiira (the dawn)
The name of the Kiama township comes from the word Kiaram-a, used by members of the Aboriginal Wodi Wodi tribe who are native to the area to describe the noise the sea makes and is believed to be in reference to the Kiama Blowhole.
