Rowling made Dumbledore's sexual orientation public eight years ago, shortly after the final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published.
Fan Ana Kocovic questioned Rowling's decision on Twitter, saying, "I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is gay" because she herself "can't see him in that way." The tweet has since been deleted.
Rowling bluntly tweeted back: "Maybe because gay people just look like...people."
Her comments received widespread praise and resonated with many others in the Twittersphere.
