Police said at about 4.25pm on Friday, a 14-year-old girl was walking along Shellharbour Road near the intersection of Queen Street.
A man spoke to her as she waited to cross the intersection.
When she got to the other side of the road, the man placed his hands up the girl’s skirt and removed his hands after the girl shouted at him.
The man then grabbed the girl’s backpack and again placed a hand under the girl’s skirt.
The girl pushed the man away, ran home and alerted her mother who called the police.
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid 20s, about 165cm tall with an obese build and red and purple dyed hair.
He was wearing a white T-shirt with writing under the arm pits, grey knee-length shorts and was carrying a white shopping bag at the time.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page at https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
