As predicted, the Liberal MP took a massive lead from the first reported count.
Labor candidate Ciaran O’Brien and Greens candidate Patrick Darley-Jones were unable to challenge Mr Rowell who enters into his second term in parliament.
“When I made my maiden speech four years ago I told the Wollondilly Shire that I wouldn’t let them down and that’s the first thing I want to say to the people of the Southern Highlands,” Mr Rowell said.
“I won’t let you down and I will honour my promises.
“I’m here to represent the people who voted for me, and for those who may not have voted for me.”
Mr Rowell made several high profile promises in the lead up to the election, including a $50 million upgrade to Bowral Hospital and eight new classrooms for Bowral Public School.
During his first term in office, Mr Rowell achieved a $130 million upgrade to Campbelltown hospital, which has already started operating.
“My major platform was the $50 million upgrade to Bowral Hospital and I expect to welcome people to the facility in the near future,” he said.
The eight new classrooms for Bowral Public School are in the advanced stages of planning and Mr Rowell said work would “absolutely commence this year”.
Mr Rowell will return to work tomorrow with phone calls to individuals who raised concerns to him at polling booths around the Wollondilly electorate.
“The community wants to hear what you’ll deliver for the community,” he said.
“I want say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me.
“Representing this community isn’t something I take for granted.”
Unsuccessful Labor candidate Ciaran O’Brien said he would make sure Mr Rowell was held accountable for his campaign promises.
“I’m going to hold him accountable for everything,” he said.
“I use the facilities and services in this area and we want progress and improvements.”
