Paramedics were called to Gerroa Road about 8.10am to find one car on its side, one motorist unconscious with head, abdomen and leg injuries and a person trapped inside a car.
Shoalhaven Local Area Command inspector Steve Johnson said a red Renault hatchback, travelling north on Gerroa Road, had collided with a stationary four-wheel-drive parked on the side of the road.
‘‘The woman who was in the stationary four-wheel-drive was phoning the NRMA because she had a flat tyre,’’ Insp Johnson said.
‘‘After the collision the Renault rolled once.
‘‘The driver of the Renault, believed to be a woman from Culburra Beach, had suspected neck and pelvic injuries.’’
The driver’s 40-year-old male passenger had head, chest, abdomen and pelvic injuries.
He was in a critical condition on Monday afternoon.
Both had to be cut from the car by Ambulance Rescue paramedics before being airlifted to St George hospital.
‘‘The driver of the four-wheel-drive was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital suffering suspected neck injuries,’’ Insp Johnson said.
Police have requested anyone who might have seen the red Renault driving prior to the collision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The accident also closed Gerroa Road for several hours.
