But just hours later a 15-year-old Illawarra schoolgirl was dead after a late night car crash with Moore behind the wheel.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty in Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday to dangerous driving occasioning death and was formally committed for sentence in Sutherland District Court later this month.

Moore was among a group of up to 20 people from the Illawarra who travelled to the state forest near Oberon in the state's Central West for a June long-weekend camping trip.

A number of the group, including Moore, enjoyed a few drinks as they set up their site in the dense pine forest, according to agreed facts tendered to the court.

About 11.30pm Moore and four others decided to go for a drive in his Holden Rodeo ute, with the 15-year-old girl initially sitting in the rear tray.

However, after a short stop, the girl moved to the front passenger seat, assuming the same position as another young man by sitting on the window sill with her body outside the vehicle and her legs inside the cabin while holding the interior handle for balance.

A short time later, when Moore attempted to negotiate a 90-degree right-hand turn, the car's rear end drifted and the vehicle rolled once, crushing the young girl and causing severe internal and head injuries.

CPR was initiated and paramedics called, however facts before the court indicate the teen appeared to have died instantly.

A male also thrown from the vehicle suffered a 15-centimetre full thickness scalp laceration.

Moore was given a roadside breath test which returned a 0.086 result, well over the 0.05 legal limit, and a later blood analysis came back at 0.064. He also suffered a suspected head injury and was treated at Oberon Hospital.

Two passengers told police Moore was travelling too fast to safely negotiate the turn, however the exact speed is unknown.
