The 17-year-old girl from Nowra was out walking with her boyfriend about 9am when police believe she started climbing down the cliff face and lost her grip, falling about 15 metres onto the rocks beneath her.

Her boyfriend notified neighbouring residents who phoned police and ambulance.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene a short time later found the  girl concussed, with head and pelvic injuries.

Kiama SES volunteer Andrew McKenzie  said it had been a difficult spot for a rescue as the emergency helicopter had to land on the edge of a rock shelf.

The girl was airlifted to St George Hospital where she was being treated last night. The extent of her injuries was not known.

Loves Bay makes up the final part of the Werri Lagoon Walking Trail and is fitted with signage about the danger of the unfenced cliff face.
