Police were called to a home on Graham Street in Unanderra shortly before 1am to find a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his face.
However they do not believe he was the intended target and suspect a third man had engaged in an affair with the alleged gunman’s wife, 2GB reports.
He was treated at the scene and taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Shortly after 9.30am on Wednesday, officers were patrolling Northcliff Drive, Berkeley, when they sighted a man who allegedly produced a knife, police said.
The man was tasered and then arrested.
He was charged with attempt to discharge loaded arms at person with intent to murder, and resist police and refused bail to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on Thursday.
Anyone with information should call Lake Illawarra police on 4232 5599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
