Savvy Strong, a team of half clients, half personal fitness trainers, were first over the line on Sunday ahead of the Novo Warriors, whose team members were all staff from the Novotel Hotel.
Sunday’s beach event was about running, rock climbing and cracking clues as the 50 teams were forced to use their mental capacity as well as their strength and fitness to complete the tasks.
Savvy Strong’s team captain Sally Pratt said the clues were challenging and fun.
‘‘There was a lot of team building and bonding,’’ said Ms Pratt. ‘‘I think our team did an outstanding job.’’
Novo Warriors captain Emily Squires said her team won the Friday and Saturday challenge in bushland at Mt Keria and the Wollongong Botanic Gardens.
‘‘We’ve been building on our fitness levels for this event,’’ said Ms Squires. ‘‘On Friday it rained heavily which only added to the excitement. Our team was able to establish a good sense of collaboration which I believe will be replicated back at work to help build the business.’’
BRAVO Team Challenge was subsidised by Destination NSW and Destination Wollongong.
Event director Chris Heverin said the aim of the challenge, which had attracted teams from Sydney and Canberra, was to showcase the Illawarra as the adventure capital of Australia.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said the event fitted in with the ethos of Wollongong as a lifestyle city rather than an industrial city.
‘‘You can get a beach or mountain anywhere but it’s what you do with that beach and mountain that matters,’’ explained Mr Bradbery. ‘‘BRAVO fits into our ethos. Wollongong residents have a new approach to living now, they are more engaged with their fitness and the environment. This event will be a big part of Wollongong’s future tourism activation package.’’
