Police have renewed their appeal for information about the man’s demise after his body was found at a NSW Housing complex on Crana Place late Thursday.
A post-mortem examination on the highly decomposed body has since been made but the man’s name will not be released until he has been formally identified.
‘‘We’re still trying to piece together some more information regarding the deceased so we can positively identify him and obviously notify loved ones and relatives,’’ Detective Superintendent Bernie Ryan of the Wollongong Local Area Command, said.
Wollongong detectives have established Strike Force Allawoona to investigate the man’s death, assisted by the State Crime Command’s homicide squad.
Police released the crime scene on Sunday after three days of an investigation described by Supt Ryan as ‘‘meticulous’’.
They have appealed to anyone with information to contact Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000).
‘‘I have no doubt that there are persons in the community that are aware of or possess particular information that could assist with this inquiry,’’ Supt Ryan said.
