The Woonona Salvation Army Store has officially re-opened, and its new premises are bigger and better than ever.
It was a sad day when the Woonona Salvos Family Store closed last October. Since then, the corner of Luxor Street and Hillcrest Avenue has been unusually quiet.
But now, op-shop loving locals need look no further than across the road, as the new and improved store opened on Saturday, April 18.
The new building, which previously housed Salvation Army offices, has been completely refurbished for its new purpose, the Salvation Army's Karen Walker said.
Customers can now enjoy a bigger, more comfortable space.
"The old store was a bit of a tin shed. There were no airconditioners - it could get pretty hot in summer. I'd say the new store is more purpose-built," Ms Walker said.
All funds raised in the Family Store support vital services in the Illawarra, ranging from homeless shelters and women's refuges, to employment services and training programs.
