An occupant of the Corrimal Street apartment left for work in the morning and returned about 7.40pm to find the 44-year-old man dead and the woman, 37, semi-conscious. 

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Wollongong Hospital.

Late on Monday she remained in a critical but stable condition.

The Mercury understands the two were friends and were visitors to the home.

Wollongong police say there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
