Morgan Williams, 21, was turning from the Princes Highway into Moombara Street around 8.10pm on May 2 last year when she collided with the two female pedestrians, who had begun walking across the street towards the pedestrian island in the middle of the road after receiving a green signal.
Williams later told police she had not seen either woman as she made the right-hand turn. Williams stopped immediately to help the injured pair. She was later breath tested by police but returned a negative reading.
Both victims were taken to hospital. The more severely injured woman required surgery on a dislocated left leg as well as 40 stitches to a wound on her head. The other woman had fractures to her left elbow, wrist and arm.
Williams pleaded guilty in the local court earlier this year to a charge of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
She was placed on a good behaviour bond, fined $1000 and ordered off the road for two years.
Appealing her disqualification time in the District Court on Tuesday, Williams told the court through her lawyer that she required her licence to continue her employment. Judge Paul Conlon agreed to halve the disqualification period to 12 months.
