Helensburgh teen Aaron Calver blossoming career at Sydney FC has been given another boost with the news he will remain at the club until 2017.
The 19-year-old signed at two-year contract extension this week on the eve of this season’s A–League finals.
It caps off a stellar season for the defender, who has been a regular fixture in coach Graham Arnold’s starting line-up throughout the campaign.
He was looking forward to continuing his development under the experienced coach.
“I’m really glad to be signing on. It’s very good and I’m excited for the next year to come especially after how the boys have gone this year,’’ he said.
“It feels great that Arnie has shown this faith in me and that he’s able to trust me and use me wherever he needs. I just want to play regularly now and impress as much as I can.”
Calver was one of two teenagers retained by Arnold this week. Eighteen-year-old attacker George Blackwood also penned a two-year deal.
“Aaron and George have impressed me immensely this season and I believe the pair are both very deserving of these new deals,” Graham Arnold said.
“I’ve always enjoyed developing youth players, I’d rather develop what we have here than go out and buy a new player where possible.
“It’s our ambition to have the best youth set up and Academy in Australia and by bringing in local based players like Aaron and George we are fulfilling their aspirations and hope to do the same with many young Sydney footballers in the future.”
