Jayden Primorac will spend at least four months behind bars after twice chasing his mother with an axe on February 23 – the second time just hours after being charged with intimidation for the first offence.
The bizarre attack, which left the 19-year-old’s mother shaken but uninjured, was sparked by an argument between the pair about Primorac smoking in the house and leaving the place in a mess.
But what started as a seemingly run-of-the-mill disagreement between parent and child quickly turned violent when Primorac became angry and kicked a piece of furniture.
Port Kembla Local Court heard on Monday how the teen’s violent outburst prompted his mother to flee to her car, dodging a speaker he threw in the car’s direction.
He then followed her into the street, shaking an axe above his head at her as she drove away.
Primorac was immediately reported to police and charged with intimidation and contravening an apprehended violence order, and released a short time later.
Undeterred, he repeated the offence when he returned home – this time ransacking his mother’s bedroom and destroying a number of items before chasing her into a neighbour’s front yard while holding the axe above his head.
The teen later told police he was ‘‘just finishing what he started’’.
Primorac was charged, and pleaded guilty to, six domestic violence-related offences.
During Primorac’s sentencing hearing, the court heard the teen was on two good behaviour bonds at the time of the offence.
He was resentenced to a number of fixed terms behind bars, to be backdated to when he was taken into custody on February 23.
Primorac will be eligible for release on June 22.
