After the removal of a large brain tumour, Wilson felt well enough to play at two venues on Saturday.
He started nervously with a song he learnt especially for an Anzac Day function at Turkish Paradise but he was soon in fine voice.
Wilson then proceeded to the Lagoon Seafood Restaurant, where he sang to diners and soon had young people dancing to his songs.
But on Monday he was back in hospital and is expected to start chemotherapy soon.
Wilson will see surgeon Dr Charlie Teo for the latest update on his condition and continues to enjoy support from the Wollongong community, around Australia and overseas.
Messages from people such as Col Joye and Doug Parkinson keep coming in.
Lagoon Seafood Restaurant owner Andrew Harrison had told him to not rush back too soon.
But Wilson was right back in his element as he entertained restaurant guests.
At the Turkish Paradise restaurant, Wilson sang several encore performances and a whole restaurant singalong to Don McLean's American Pie.
"How's that, first show back, and he hasn't lost his touch," restaurant owner Michael Yaglipinar said.
Fellow musicians Tanya Phillips, Rikki Organ and Scott Radburn are among many friends who have been keeping a close eye on the former member of the Four Kinsmen as he continues his fight.
Wilson said he was very grateful.
