McGrath Estate Agents Thirroul director Trever Molenaar said his listing at 209 Lawrence Hargrave Drive was a rare opportunity to buy into the tightly held suburb.
"There is a lot of top-end property in Coalcliff, generally you don't get any change from a million dollars for property in the suburb and the surrounding suburbs," he said. "Most of it has a view of the water or a view of the escarpment as it's only a very small stretch of land.
"It's very much located on the metro market because it's a lot closer to Sydney than the rest of the Illawarra.
"However it's very much hidden and not many people know about where it is. Everyone knows about Austinmer and Thirroul but once you get past the Sea Cliff Bridge it's pretty quiet and very tightly held."
Only four properties have been sold in the suburb in the past two years, according to Australian Property Monitors.
The highest sale during that period was 213 Lawrence Hargrave Drive at $1.55 million by Ray White Helensburgh.
Other sales included 223 Lawrence Hargrave Drive for $1.45 million sold by Belle Property Wollongong; 237 Lawrence Hargrave Drive for $1.05 million (Ray White Helensburgh); and 250 Lawrence Hargrave Drive for $1.05 million (One Agency Denison-Pender Property).
Mr Molenaar's listing, which has a north-east aspect on 2479 square metres of land, is on the market for $1.695 million.
The architecturally designed home has custom joinery, a marble/timber kitchen, walk-in pantry, stainless steel appliances, airconditioning and vaulted ceilings.
The master bedroom has access to a deck with ocean views and the master ensuite features a dressing room and double stone wash basins.
"The owners have worked in Bali so they have brought a lot of the natural stones from Bali, which are featured in the bathrooms and ensuites," he said.
The home also features an entertainment deck with outdoor kitchen and boardwalk that connects to a viewing platform.
"The owners have been really creative in how they have landscaped the backyard and there's not a lot of mowing or maintenance," he said.
"To find a house of that quality on a block that big with those views and absolute cliff frontage is really rare."
