There are pedigree felines who have days devoted to their showtime preparation, but Dante, the sleek Siamese kitten of Unanderra, was born ready.
There will be no bath for the 10-week-old seal point, no uncomfortable session with the cat comb - not with his coat, said breeder and owner Tony Hurry.
"On a Persian a [knotted coat] can mean disqualification," said Mr Hurry, secretary of the Illawarra Pedigree Cat Fancy.
"Washing is a science of its own; many... have got sophisticated blow-drying machines to quickly dry the cat's coat.
"Siamese is one of the easiest [cat breeds] to look after because they get patted so much it keeps the sleekness and close-lying coat that judges like.
"[Dante] will just eat and play."
Dante and Dellina - another kitten bred by the Hurry family - are among 180 entrants in the 47th All Breeds Championship and Companion Cat Show, at Berkeley Netball Stadium on Sunday.
The cats will be scrutinised according to 100 criteria - everything from coat condition to ear size.
The majority of entrants are pedigree breeds, but 12 are "companion cats" available for adoption, to be judged mostly on their temperament.
Judging starts at 9am and continues until 3.30pm.
Entry is by gold coin donation.
