Greg Vincent's wife had received letters from several sources, intending to expose the Wave FM radio announcer's long-term affair, a court has heard.
Vincent is accused of breaking into his ex-lover's Warilla home in the early hours of December 28 last year, grabbing her by the throat and threatening to kill her if she told police.
Vincent, who has pleaded not guilty to aggravated breaking and entering to commit a serious indictable offence of intimidation, told Wollongong District Court yesterday his wife had received mail which aimed to reveal his illicit relationship.
Vincent told the jury two letters had been sent to his wife's workplace in October last year.
The first, allegedly written by someone from Wiseman Park Wollongong City Bowling Club, where Vincent and his ex-mistress often went, described Vincent as a "smug prick" who "thought he could have whoever he wanted because of his status", the court heard.
The second letter claimed Vincent and his former lover had been coming into the Gwynneville club weekly for about two years and noted the pair were "brazen" in their public hand-holding and kissing.
Vincent told the jury he now suspected the correspondence was from his ex-mistress.
After the affair was revealed, the woman then allegedly started to phone Vincent's wife before approaching her at a charity bowls day and trying to speak to her, the court was told.
Vincent said that after ending the pair's four-year tryst in November last year, the woman continued to attend the bowling club, enter Wave FM competitions and contact him, sometimes phoning more than 100 times a day.
"It was a large volume of calls ... when the calls came, I just hit the 'kill' button on my phone [but] she kept ringing ... it was non-stop," he said.
The 49-year-old yesterday vehemently denied any involvement in the alleged offence, telling the court that claims he went to the woman's residence were "absolutely ridiculous".
He told the jury he had left for his morning shift at Wave about 4am on the day of the incident, arriving at the Warrawong station around 4.20am to prepare.
The trial continues today.
