A large pool of blood found in a Kiama car park on Monday sparked a search for a well-known local transient man who was believed to have been injured.

Employees of an office block on Terralong Street located the blood in an underground car park, with police investigations confirming it was human.
It was initially feared the blood may have belonged to a homeless man regularly seen in the area, with concerns the man may have sustained a serious injury or illness.
‘‘Police circulated around the Kiama CBD, found him, and took him back to the police station. The concern was he was unwell,’’ Acting Inspector Kylie Macfarlane said.
The man was confirmed to be uninjured.
Insp Macfarlane said investigations concluded the blood was likely from a medical episode like vomiting, rather than a cut or other serious injury, and that the blood was not fresh.
‘‘It was a decent amount of blood ... it is a concern,’’ she said.
‘‘The homeless man hadn’t seen or heard anything. We are not suspicious of him.’’
Investigations by Lake Illawarra police are ongoing, with DNA testing to identify the source of the blood.
Despite checks with local hospitals, police have been unable to link any recent patients to the car park.
