Averages took a hit but clearance rates were high at Sunday's 17th Annual Dapto Puppy Auction.
A total of 303 greyhounds were sold of the 348 catalogued for the auction with an average sale price of $2180.
The figure was down on last year's $2819 but Dapto GRC president Jack Primmer said the club was pleased with the result given the circumstances.
"The outcome was good because we had the football test on, the fight on and the rain which stopped people coming down. In saying all of that the average was nearly $2200 which is very good," he said.
The top lot went to a strapping son of Kinloch Brae and locally trained chaser Paua To Erupt.
The pup was sold for $22,000, $2000 more than last year's highest price.
Paua To Erupt was prepared by Nowra Hill trainer Steve White.
The litter was high in demand with five pups selling for a combined total of $48,800.
Other popular litters were Swift Fancy - Tonto and Collison - Magic Capers youngsters.
The auction's aggregate was close to $670,000.
All pups will have the chance to contest the Dapto Puppy Classic Series at the end of 2016 and start of 2017.
"They will go around next year in December for $75,000 first prize. In January there is a $10,000 for the 297m dogs and $10,000 for the 600m dogs. If a dog can win two of the three, you'll win a Hyundai," Primmer added.
Locally trained sprinter Bertacious Bee - an $800 at purchase by Chris Bertinato - claimed last year's Group 2 Puppy Classic.
In other news, owner-trainer Jason Fletcher quinellaed the Group 3 Summer Puppy Classic (520m) final at Nowra on Monday.
Fantastic Spiral narrowly edged out sibling Fantastic Sid in a sizzling 29.54 seconds on a quick track. His time was just 0.01s outside Ritza Hattie's 2013 track record.
