Krystal Lee Begg was refused bail in Port Kembla Local Court on Tuesday, charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and affray.
The court heard the police had an "incredibly strong prosecution case" against the 21-year-old mother, who was allegedly witnessed on CCTV footage carrying out the brazen February 13 attack.
Police allege Begg was across the road from the Piccadilly Arcade, on Crown Street, when she became involved in a yelling match with the driver of a car parked outside the arcade.
Within moments, Begg is alleged to have grabbed a bottle from the ground and smashed it as the woman approached her.
According to police facts tendered to the court the pair spoke for a number of minutes and a witness intervened, before an agitated Begg allegedly hit the woman in the face with the makeshift weapon.
The force of the blow caused the alleged victim to stumble backwards from the kerb and into the first lane of traffic, the facts said, while Begg allegedly fled.
Police said the woman followed - despite realising she had been cut to the face and was bleeding - and got into another physical altercation with Begg in the arcade.
Begg allegedly fled the scene after a witness intervened for a second time.
The injured woman was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where she received 17 stitches to close the gashes on the left side of her face, the facts said.
Begg was arrested and charged with the matter on May 1.
During an interview with police, the young mother allegedly told officers that the woman had done a good job of "pushing her buttons" and she had "blacked out" with anger directly before the attack.
Begg had since shown remorse for her actions and wanted to apologise to her alleged victim, the facts said. Begg reiterated that sentiment at her bail hearing on Tuesday, telling the court she was upset about what she had done.
"I do understand the seriousness of my offence and I do take full responsibility for what I have done," she said.
"On the day this all happened I had no intent to hurt her."
The court heard Begg had a "'very sad past up to this point" and suffered from a range of mental illnesses, although Magistrate Michael Stoddart noted she had a lengthy criminal history and was on a bond for an intimidation offence at the time of the alleged attack.
She was refused bail to reappear in court on June 24.
