Buses are continuing to supplement train services.
Passengers are advised to allow additional travel time, listen to announcements and check station indicator boards.
EARLIER: The South Coast Line is partially closed in both directions between Waterfall and Thirroul due to a freight train with mechanical issues at Coalcliff on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Fire and Rescue NSW, the train is stuck in a tunnel and no one has been injured.
NSW Trainlink says bus companies are being contacted to provide a replacement service but they are yet to start operating.
A shuttle train is operating between Waterfall and Coalcliff and between Thirroul and Scarborough.
Passengers are advised to delay their trip.
