In a coup for the UniBar, the show will be the only non-capital city stop for the American indie-rockers, who are one of the top billed acts on the Byron Bay festival's line-up.
They haven’t toured Australia since 2012, when they released the Grammy nominated record Codes & Keys.
The 18-year-old Washington band rose to fame early last decade with their cult albums like Plans and Transatlanticism, and are now touring their eighth album - Kintsugi - released on March 31.
After the recent departure of long-time guitarist and songwriter Chris Walla, Death Cab will play the UniBar with a five-piece line-up, headed by singer and guitarist Ben Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr.
They’ll be joined by touring members Dave Depper, who has played with Menomena, Fruit Bats, Corin Tucker, Ray Lamontagne, and Zac Rae, who has played with My Brightest Diamond, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey and Gnarls Barkley.
They will play the UniBar on July 31 and tickets are on sale now.
