Nathan Edwards, 20, was charged with breaking and entering the victim’s house armed with a knife.
According to the police facts, Edwards – an alleged cannabis addict – went to a block of units in Bent St, Warrawong, to buy drugs on two occasions.
Police allege that both times he gave the victim $50 and was told to wait, but the victim did not return.
Early on Saturday morning the police facts state Edwards went to try and recover his money, taking a knife from the kitchen.
He allegedly broke in through a bathroom window and confronted the victim.
After asking for his money and drugs, Edwards allegedly said ‘‘I will stab ya, I will kill ya.’’
He was told to leave, at which point police allege he thrust at the victim with the knife twice.
The second thrust hit the victim in the abdomen and, after Edwards left, a neighbour rang for an ambulance.
Using a tracker dog, police arrived at Edwards’ residence and allegedly found a knife and a set of black gloves.
The police facts allege Edwards admitted at his house that he had stabbed the victim due to a drug debt and that he had taken the knife only for protection.
Edwards also allegedly told police the victim swung a punch at him and he defended himself with the knife.
He also allegedly told police he felt ‘‘sick’’ about what he had done and smoked two bongs to calm down.
At Port Kembla Bail Court on Sunday, prosecutor Michael Knight opposed bail saying the charge was a serious offence and there was a concern for the safety of the victim.
Sgt Knight also said Edwards had ‘‘planned’’ to get either money or drugs from the victim. The decision to wear gloves and a hoodie and bring a knife showed a degree of premeditation.
Registrar Kathy Frost refused Edwards bail and remanded him to appear before the court on Monday.
