From Kanahooka down to Oak Flats, up through Warilla and Primbee to Warrawong, across to Berkeley then back they started, hundreds of cyclists pumped the pedals through the 41 kilometre almost-marathon on a much-welcomed warm autumn day.
Event organiser Rob Battocchio hoped up to $20,000 would be raised for Lighthouse Church's initiatives supporting homeless young people.
"It's been a spectacular day, with a lot of community goodwill," he said.
Entry fees from the ride will go to charity, and Mr Battocchio added more than half of the riders had given extra funds to the cause.
Around 450 riders tackled the full course, while another 60 chose the shorter family course. Cyclists from as far as Cootamundra and Sydney pedalled around the lake, even riding unicycle and tandem bikes, and all having the chance to see parts of the Illawarra they may have never seen.
"It's all for a good cause," Adam, from West Wollongong, said.
Mr Battocchio said a video of the ride would soon be on the website at ridearoundthelake.com.au.
