On May 16, the Mercury headlined a doubling of unemployment rates, Rowan Huxtable (Mercury Letters) argued a case for finances to move away from unproductive residential housing, and a panel member on ABC local radio lamented that government infrastructure projects employ non local labour skills.

On the same day Fairfax Media placed a full page advertisement extolling the virtues of profits before employment and then sign off as ‘‘community media’’.
Four Corners two weeks ago did an expose on labour hire firms and the exploitation of ‘‘backpackers’’. Recorded was a comment by a labour hire supervisor ‘‘do not employ Europeans’’.
Apparently there was an incident when some English females were standing up for their rights. The labour hire supervisor and his assistant were non European.
The global village has invaded and is destroying Australian values, disclosing the inadequacy of our systems of governance, commerce, policing, and morality that once generated a peaceful country and community.
Unfortunately, political correctness and associated abusiveness prevents rational discussion and debate that could lead to a restoration of a safe community.

Politicians never change, they serve up the same garbage every time they announce a budget and as we all know from experience, we will lose and they will all get their pensions worth hundreds of thousands no matter what state the country’s finances are in.
I wonder why when we are paying high rates of interest on money borrowed in our name that politicians can give millions to corrupt foreign governments while our hospitals and schools are given less funds and our cost of living keeps rising.
How can this be justified? Something stinks in our political system. It is time for a change and the first thing should be that all state governments go as they are of no use in today’s world.
As well, all the free-loading perks should be abolished, our tax dollars should be for all Australians and not to be shared among a group of self-serving con artists.

To the aggressive driver in the silver grey 4WD who cut me off [on Tuesday morning] about 9.15am at the lights at Gwynneville. You accused me of not giving way to you as you pushed in front of me from your lane into my lane even though you were behind me when you made your aggressive move.
The last time I looked, a driver is meant to use the indicator when changing lanes and do so safely. In case you don’t know where the indicator is, it’s on your steering column.

The passing of blues great BB King is a huge loss to the world of entertainment.
BB King’s story is truly inspirational; he started from very humble beginnings and rose to great heights as a blues legend.
His ability to make his guitar almost talk was fascinating.
The fourth paragraph of a recent article says it all: ‘‘News of King’s death elicited an array of tributes from musicians across all genres who credited the master guitarist as a towering influence’’. Such a comment speaks volumes for BB King’s love of music and his particular style that continued to capture generations of fans.
A great musician and wonderful entertainer, may he rest in peace.
