Lachlan Boon, 14, will join Keaton James, 18, as Youth Ambassadors from the Illawarra at the National Boys' Health Forum, addressing an audience of 100 politicians, social investors, educators and media.
As someone who has completed a Top Blokes mentoring program, Lachlan was chosen to speak about his experiences with bullying and depression, which he hopes will help make a difference "because there's a lot we can change".
"If I can share my story, then maybe I can help other guys to make good choices ... I hope to make people more aware and help change the way young men think and act around each other."
The non-profit Top Blokes Foundation runs programs focusing on social issues aimed at empowering 14- to 24-year-olds to contribute positively to their communities, and is hosting the forum to push for more political, financial and social investment in young males.
"If we focus on building the resilience and social education of young males, we will directly impact the issues of mental health and family violence," foundation CEO Melissa Abu-Gazaleh said.
