Dozens of children from around Warilla had the chance to construct their ideal place to live including the ultimate garden out of cardboard boxes, as part of the Healthy Cities Illawarra 2528 Project.
The day at Crew Park coincided with KidsFest Shellharbour celebrations and was aimed at bringing the children’s creativity and imagination to the surface, as well as strengthening communication and social skills.
Project Coordinator Nikke Gladwin said the day was much more than just having fun, but to get the kids working together and problem solve which will ‘‘contribute to building resilient children’’.
‘‘It’s about children gaining the skills through play that help to develop not only their cognitive and learning skills, but also how they communicate and socialise with one another,’’ she said.
The 2528 Project manages community activities for children and families, building capacity and connection to place through positive activity to improve the community for everyone.
