Southern Highlands cross fit star Ben Garard has produced a world record in completing a stunning comeback to book his place in the international games in Los Angeles in July.
Garard's dream looked over when he finished 27th in the first event at the Australian Pacific Regional titles in Wollongong on Friday, after confusion surrounding the validity of a clean snatch lift.
The opening leg of the weekend involved 75 weightlifting snatches, but the officials ruled one of Garard's repetitions was not correctly completed.
Garard ran to the finish line, but was called back, ruining his time and seemingly any chance of finishing in the top five overall to qualify for the US trip.
However, in the seventh and final event, muscle-ups and squat cleans, Garard finished in a world record 1 minute 17.9 seconds.
"I wanted it so much," Garard said.
"It was a rough start, but the crowd kept me going, I put my heart on the line.
"I'm absolutely stoked, I was so fired up for the last event. I always felt like it had my name on it and I managed to pull it off."
Events include rounds of rope climbs, pull-ups, handstand push-ups, handstand walks, muscle-ups, sit-ups, box jumps, overhead squats, thrusters, snatches, deadlifts, running and skipping.
Launched in 2000, Cross Fit is a cross-functional strength and conditioning program that tests speed, strength, stamina, endurance and mental toughness.
The International CrossFit Games, in Los Angeles in July, involves 40 athletes competing for the title of "world's fittest man".
