The NBL is eight days from returning to an eight-team competition, with the Wollongong Hawks' plan for survival expected to be approved at a creditors' meeting next week.
The Hawks, under multi-millionaire telecommunications owner James Spenceley, entered voluntary administration in March, following the collapse of a major sponsorship deal with Wollongong Coal.
However, after a public campaign to attract new sponsors, including now major backer MCR (Multi Civil and Rail), the embattled NBL club is set to ensure its place in the 2015-16 season.
It comes as Townsville secured their short-term future after also plunging into voluntary administration.
The difficulties faced by the Hawks and Crocodiles threatened the existence of the competition, as NBL negotiations failed to produce a return of the Brisbane Bullets.
A deed of company arrangement (DOCA) will be proposed to the Hawks' creditors this week and the club's fate will be decided on June 2.
The likely outcome is that the Hawks will be given the green light to reopen for business for the first time since entering voluntary administration almost three months ago.
Hawks general manager Kim Welch said the DOCA ensured employee superannuation would be paid in full, as well as leave and service entitlements.
"It's been a long and at times frustrating process. However, there has been a range of contributing factors that has led to the length in time it has taken to get to this point," Welch said.
"We've been working closely with the NBL, the Players' Association and the administrators over the duration of the VA period, so I'm hopeful we'll see a positive outcome for the club."
Last week the NBL confirmed Townsville would be playing in the 2015-16 season after the club overcame its financial problems.
The Hawks expect to follow suit after a significant sponsorship boost, though Welch said continued support was crucial.
"It's now vital that all the sponsorship pledges are honoured," he said.
"DOCA aside, we need all local businesses to follow the great lead of Multi Civil and Rail and commit to their sponsorship and corporate hospitality pledges for next season. I encourage everyone to get behind the club and make sure the Hawks stay a part of this community for many more years to come."
