South Coast put a healthy four-point buffer between themselves and last placed Marconi after they secured a vital 1-0 away win against the Stallions on Saturday night.
The Wolves had started the match with just one win to their name through 10 rounds but a stunning Peter Simonoski strike in the 87th minute ensured they would double their tally.
The striker found space just outside the box and fired a sublime effort off the bottom of the crossbar and into the Stallions net.
Much to the pleasure of coach Nahuel Arrarte, it gave South Coast three crucial points to jump to 10th on the competition ladder.
"It was a good result against a team like us who is desperate for points," Arrarte said. "It is still very tight in the league, so it was an important three points."
It always seemed as if it would be a game which would be decided by a single goal after the first half offered very little clear chances in the attacking third.
Former Wollongong United midfielder Billy Tsovolos had the best opportunity of the half for the Stallions when his close-range shot was cleared off the line.
Both sides would create more half chances but headed into the sheds at 0-0.
They'd return in the second stanza with a bit more purpose as Tomislav Mijic forced Wolves' keeper Thomas Manos into a good save just after the break.
The Wolves returned serve midway through the half with chances to substitute Anthony Proia and James Baldacchino both failing to ripple the net.
Simonoski would finally give the scorers something to worry about as the game approached stoppage time when he fired his contender for goal of the season from distance.
It was the striker's fourth in regular season matches and proved the decisive blow for the visitors.
"We spoke at half-time and knew it was going to be one of those games where we might not get a lot of chances. We took it when it was given to us," Arrarte said.
"The boys maintained their structure and they weren't able to make many chances. We kept a clean sheet which was another positive from our perspective.
"It wasn't the prettiest game but it was a solid performance."
