Lake Illawara police say about 8pm Sunday, officers and ambulance paramedics were called to a home on Bambil Crescent, Dapto, to attend to a 46-year-old man who was unconscious in the lounge room.

The man was rushed to Wollongong Hospital for surgery; he is reportedly in a critical condition after sustaining injuries to his head.

While at the home, police arrested a 30-year-old man. He was later taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.

The man was refused bail to appear before Port Kembla court Monday May 25.
