Shaz Harrison-Shaw is a finalist in the Westfund Health Hero Awards, which recognise people who are making a difference to the health and wellbeing of their community. The winners are chosen by public vote.
Illawarra residents can vote for Mrs Harrison-Shaw at your.westfund.com.au/heroes/vote/ until May 31.
Mrs Harrison-Shaw was nominated because of her role as a full-time volunteer who supports the less fortunate in the community.
She sacrifices her time and money to help those most in need.
During the past couple of years, she has run many food-parcel distribution days through different neighbourhood centres and support agencies, supplying more than 1500 food parcels to those in need.
This year, she is planning to organise a Christmas Day lunch for people who live on the streets or need some support.
Mrs Harrison-Shaw has also organised many fundraising events to help continue and expand her program, which started in December 2012.
Since then, it has helped thousands of people in need in the Illawarra community.
Meanwhile, Need a Feed, Adrian D'Amico and The Wollongong Homeless Hub are partnering up to make a real difference to local people who need help this winter.
They aim to provide 1500 food packages to those doing it tough in the Illawarra and raise $50,000 to reach that goal.
Anyone who would like to donate can do so at gofundme.com/h75vnc.
Non-perishable goods can be left at Autochange Mechanical in Pioneer Drive, Bellambi, and CareSouth in Berkeley and Nowra.
