One of the more infamous nightspots on the Wollongong social scene has been scrubbed clean, renovated and refurbished into the suave, sophisticated Mr Crown.
"It's not a nightclub," said spokesman, Lu Ristov.
Gone are the sticky floors, dark corners, cheap beer and memories of yesteryear's ill-advised dance floor hook-up; in their place, custom-designed leather couches, sleek wooden tables and bar, hipster-heavy wall collages and a selection of top-shelf liquor.
It's a small bar feel, without the "small".
"We've done something similar [to a small bar] but on a lot larger scale," Mr Ristov said.
"We felt Wollongong has been crying out for a good food, beverage and entertainment venue like this."
Mr Crown will open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week, and stay open late into the night as a bar venue. DJs and bands will take the stage in front of crowds of hundreds, a much larger capacity than even the roomiest of players in Wollongong's thriving ecosystem of small bars.
Illawarra designers planned the renovation, which has been almost seven months in the making.
The chequered past of the Glasshouse is still fresh in the minds of many, with bad and so-bad-they're-good memories split equally. Mr Ristov, however, stresses Mr Crown is an entirely different beast, and urged Wollongong locals to give the venue a clean slate.
