Controversial Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi's parliamentary inquiry into food certification - really, halal certification - has been receiving all sorts of wonderful and well thought out submissions from the public.

Mr Bernardi has long held fears about where the money paid for halal certification "ends up" - he has referred to it in the past as a "racket" - including whether it helps fund terrorist groups or religious activities in Australia.

He says he's keen for the inquiry to "establish all the facts" about certification. The Australian Crime Commission said last year it found no links between halal certification and the financing of terror groups.

Submissions to the inquiry have been trickling through and more are being uploaded by the day. Here's 11 that stood out from those received so far.

1. "Cadbury are feeling it already"

Cadbury has had to downsize its chocolate bars in recent times - but that was down to the rising cost of cocoa, the company claims, not the rising cost of halal certification.

Also, "this is a free country" counts as a skol in the anti-halal drinking game. 

2. Emoticons and purple Comic Sans help get your point across

Thanks for using Comic Sans, Florence. That way we can tell you're really serious about ending halal certification.

And tax refunds for those who buy halal! Terrific idea, it won't put a black hole in the budget at all. The emoji in the signature is a nice touch. Submissions with a smile, that's what we like to see.

3. This guy is short and to-the-point

No more needs to be said. 

4. Sell the mosques, keep the proceeds, profit

"Name withheld" is not content with just bringing down halal certification. They want to ban mosques, force Islamic leaders to sell the properties, and then confiscate the proceeds on behalf of Australian producers.

5. Excellent use of scare quotes

Typically a favourite of tabloid newspapers, scare quotes say what you're trying to say without saying anything at all.

6. We probably need Jesus

The writer has a point to make about live animal exports, and goes about making that point in the most obtuse way possible.

7. A well-referenced argument

The Koran does not actually establish a formal food certification scheme, it's true. The Angel Gabriel did not really have time to go into all the ins and outs when reciting it word-by-word to Muhammad, I guess. Bonus points for scrupulous referencing.

8. More paragraphs please

The fastest way to have someone not read your letter is to forget how to use the enter key.

9. "Sent from my HTC"

Nothing like a bit of government submission action while you're on the go with only a trusty mobile at hand. This campaign will not be stopped by the simple minutiae of life. 

10. Organic is not my real concern

This person is concerned about the "far reaching Islamisation of our nation" but not organic food certification. Have you seen the prices of organic quinoa? Outrageous.

11. Everyone has a heart

This writer's heart bleeds for the Heart Foundation's tick, but not for Muslims. Bonus points for the use of Courier New, a sadly underappreciated font.
