Students from 176 schools across the country swapped the classroom for the headmaster's chair and became principal for a day, gaining hands-on experience in leadership and the decision-making processes involved.

Principal Christine Toohey said it was the second year the school had run the program to provide opportunities to help students realise "they can achieve their dreams and goals".

The students, chosen from year 8 and year 9 classes, had to write a submission as to why they deserved to undertake the role, and were able to be involved in a lot of "behind the scenes" work that goes with running a high school.

Georgia Lewington from year 9 said she hoped to use her experience to eventually become a school captain because she really cherished taking on responsibility.

"I wanted to learn more about . . . skills I would take from being a leader," she said.

The four will share their experiences by recording short videos and sharing them online with others taking part.
