A fire-juggling street performer on a four-metre high unicycle was among the highlights of yesterday's Spring into Corrimal festival, which brought northern suburbs residents out in droves.
Hundreds flocked to Corrimal's main drag where the sun-soaked street was lined with food stands and craft stalls offering everything from fairy floss and snow cones to airbrush tattoos.
While some stopped to admire the expertise of world champion unicyclist Jamey Mossengren as he juggled a fiery torch and knife atop his towering unicycle, others made a pit stop at the touring toilet.
The curious attraction - which featured signs proclaiming "I give a crap about poverty" - was organised by the Woonona Baptist Catalyst group to raise awareness about the lack of adequate sanitation in developing countries.
Group member Mark Davies, who was collecting signatures to petition the federal government for an increase in international aid for sanitation, said he had witnessed the problem first-hand.
"Two and a half billion people around the world don't have access to a hygienic toilet," Mr Davies said.
"We're passionate about people who don't have a voice, so our role is to speak for [them] ... and hopefully instigate some change."
