A 19-year-old Fairy Meadow man has been charged with assault and possession of cocaine after an alleged assault in North Wollongong in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Shortly after midnight a 31-year-old man was at a service station on Flinders Street with two family members. Police have been told the man was involved in a verbal altercation with the younger man before he was pushed to the ground.
It is alleged the 19-year-old stomped on his head, causing him to lose consciousness, before fleeing the scene with a woman.
Witnesses called emergency services, who attended a short time later. The injured man was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he remains.
A short time later officers arrested the 19-year-old at a nightclub in Wollongong. The man was allegedly in possession of cocaine.
