Temperatures hit 21.6degrees at Albion Park and a positively balmy 22.2 at Bellambi, with a forecast gale seemingly puffing itself out before seriously affecting the Illawarra. The water stayed unseasonably warm too, with ocean temperatures also nudging the 20degree mark.
It was a picture that seemed unlikely on Tuesday morning, as strong winds buffeted the Illawarra. Albion Park recorded a 56km/h wind gust at 6.14am, while Kiama felt the same speed at 6.39am. Further south in Nowra, winds were even stronger with a 69km/h gust blowing through town just before 4am.
The winter warmth will be short-lived, however, as Wednesday will not be as kind. Showers and milder temperatures are predicted up and down the coast.
A high of 16degrees has been forecast across the Illawarra, with morning rain predicted.
