Surely no virtuoso neatly divides public opinion quite like the pianist David Helfgott. Is he an eccentric genius, up there with the likes of Vladimir Horowitz, or a run-of-the-mill performer, milking his affable triumph-over-adversity persona touted in the 1996 biopic, Shine, for all it's worth?
