The Southlake Illawarra BMX Club has been the home of racing in the region for more than 40 years with riders to benefit from a major overhaul of its Croom Road track.
A state-of-the-art polymer coating has been applied to the gravel surface, and a state-first transponder timing system has also been installed.
Elite-level riders will mix with newcomers to the sport at the Southlake Open, with racers from the ACT, Victoria, Queensland and New Zealand expected to compete.
Local hopes include talented Helensburgh siblings Kai and Saya Sakakibara, while the Fox family of Albion Park - including dad Ricky and sons Cody, Cooper and Bailey - bring a brace of national title rankings to the event.
The Southlake Open will also mark the state round debut of many of the host club's newest and youngest members. Some are as young as five years old.
"It's been a lot of hard work, but we're ready," Southlake committee member Russ Robeille said.
"The club has really pulled together to get the updates done in time, and the track looks fantastic," he said.
Racing starts early on Sunday, with spectators encouraged to offer their support and back the some of the top riders in Australia.
The club has installed additional grandstand seating, and catering services will be extended to cope with the expected crowds.
