Berkeley duplex destroyed in suspicious fire

Police are treating as suspicious a fire that destroyed a duplex in Berkeley in the early hours of this morning.

Police, paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the Massey Street address about 1.15am and found it engulfed by flames.

Despite the efforts of firefighters, the duplex was completely destroyed, while an adjoining property suffered only minor damage.

An elderly resident was evacuated from the adjoining premises and treated for smoke inhalation.

No one was inside the destroyed duplex at the time of the fire.
