This beautiful mural, which will take pride of place at Figtree High School, is what you get when Aboriginal students collaborate with friends.
Ten students from year 8 and 9 took part in the Aboriginal art project, based on the Figtree High symbol.
Student Holly McDonald said she learned more about her Indigenous culture. Her chosen friend Zoe Williams also enjoyed the experience of creating the "special mural".
"We discovered that the original fig tree in this area was used as a meeting and learning place as well as a shelter for protection," Zoe said.
"We then collaborated on ideas such as using native birds and animals to be featured on and around the tree."
Holly said Aboriginal artist Zac Bennett Brooks offered valuable advice and help.
"He showed us some of the techniques he uses for his art and he gave us some tips for ours. We were really appreciative," the 13-year-old said.
Figtree teacher Jessica Williams said the students took ownership of the mural and got a great sense of pride.
"It was good to see them work together on this very important project," Ms Williams said.
Her views were shared by retired arts teacher Gloria Roche, who was "extremely proud of the students".
Holly said they learned to work together on the mural.
"Mrs Roche was very persistent and didn't give up on us. From day one to now we have all improved our art skills immensely and the skill to work together collaboratively. I enjoyed working with peers from other year groups and learning the history of the Aboriginal culture," she said.
Ross Kyriazis, Patrick Denham, Hannah Bryant, Krystall Cattell, Camelia Ali, Sarah Winch, Kade Hutchings and Jarrod Castles also helped paint the mural. It will be launched on July 16.
