The annual event is an opportunity for the committee to showcase some of the star trainee, apprentice and teaching performers in the region.
The NSW Training Awards are hosted by the NSW Department of Education and Communities, local VTCs and sponsors.
Illawarra and South East NSW Region VTC chair Meredith Yabsley said the annual event was a great way for local business to recognise and acknowledge the talent they have nurtured in their apprentices and trainees and to the many others involved in the vocational education and training system.
Apprentice of the Year was miner Kyle Kruger who did a Mechanical Trade Certificate III in engineering with HVTC, South32 and TAFE NSW Illawarra Institute.
Trainee of the Year was IMB employee David Sawers for his achievements doing a Certificate III in information, technology and digital media with the Australian College of Commerce and Management Pty Ltd.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year was Jacqueline Dailhou who works with Department of Human Services - Centrelink.
Ms Dailhou’s recognition came as a result of her performance during a Certificate III in Business Services-Customer Contact with Customer Focus Group Training Company of NSW.
The Vocational Education and Training Teacher/Trainer Award went to Wollongong TAFE NSW - Illawarra Institute employee Troy Everett who has been a mentor to many Worldskill competitors from the region for many years and is regarded as an international expert on training and preparing students for Worldskill competitions.
The Vocational Student of the Year was Corey De Bruin who did a Diploma of Business with EVOCCA College.
School Based Trainee/Apprentice of the Year was Own Isedale who was placed at Max Wood and Sons by 1300apprentice and did a Carpentry Certificate III with TAFE NSW Illawarra Institute.
And the Vocational Education and Training in Schools Student of the Year was presented to Jackson Rutter who was placed with host employer Office of Environment and Heritage by HVTC Illawarra and was trained by Kiama Community College.
