An Unanderra woman sat on top of another young woman and repeatedly punched her in the face, leaving the victim with two black eyes and multiple bruises and cuts, in a violent attack outside a Wollongong nightclub, a court heard yesterday.
Sarah Stevenson, 18, brutally assaulted the victim in two separate altercations near Platform 3 nightclub, later posting on Facebook that she had "bashed" the victim, in an attempt to scare her, Wollongong Local Court has been told.
Stevenson and the victim, who had known each other for a few months, got into a disagreement outside the Gladstone Ave nightspot just after 3am on March 3 after the victim spoke to Stevenson's now ex-boyfriend.
The argument soon turned physical and the pair ended up falling on the ground with the victim lying on her back as Stevenson threw punches at her, the court heard yesterday.
Stevenson eventually got off the woman and moved a short distance away, but it wasn't long before a further altercation occurred after Stevenson pushed the victim in the chest and she fell to the ground.
Stevenson then ended up on the woman's chest and continued raining down blows before Stevenson's former boyfriend pulled her away.
Stevenson later told police the pair had attacked each other, claiming she had defended herself after the victim threw punches at her.
She also admitted that a Facebook post, stating she had "bashed" the victim, was only posted to "scare her".
Stevenson pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Defence solicitor David Schier told the court the victim had been drinking on the night of the offence, but claimed his client had only had a couple of drinks earlier in the evening.
Mr Schier said his client understood hitting the woman was not reasonable in the circumstances, but noted the offence was "out of character" as Stevenson was hard-working and had no criminal record.
Stevenson was placed on an 18-month good behaviour bond.
