Faith Maggs and Tahlia Young were just two students to receive recognition on Tuesday morning for their performances in section 423 Demi-Character or Character Solo for 10 years and under.

Director of the academy Vanessa Corrie thinks there will be more ribbons and trophies to come in the competition’s final days, and said she was immensely proud of her dancers. ‘‘The kids are having a great time, and the hard work has paid off,’’ she said.

Mrs Corrie believes in teaching a wide variety of genres as each child was suited to a different style, while she attributed the flood of awards this year to ‘‘stepping outside the box’’ with choreography.

‘‘They need to stand out, I love to be different from everybody else. I like to have an idea behind the dance...it needs to have a meaning, and a reason for why they’re doing it.’’

The 36-year-old opened the school in 2001, while many of her students have been learning the art since they could barely walk.

‘‘They’re getting better and better, younger and younger and I think [parents] feel they need to get them in young. 

‘‘From when I danced it’s unbelievable what the little ones can do now, it’s a bit scary actually,’’ she said.
