His ultimate goal is a ticket to the Olympics next year, but Flynn Ogilvie's more immediate task is rescuing University's minor premiership hopes.
Ogilvie, part of the Kookaburras' Champions Trophy squad last year, missed out on the World League championships in Belgium.
However, he could still be part of Australia's long-term plans and may even take his place in pursuit of gold in Rio de Janeiro.
In the meantime, Ogilvie will have a three-week cameo with junior club Uni, starting with Sunday's showdown with Wests at Illawarra Hockey Centre.
Uni are seven points adrift of bitter rivals Albion Park in the minor premiership race, but coach Nick Jennings hopes Ogilvie's presence will reignite their finals charge.
"We'll need Albion Park to slip, which is highly unlikely, but if they do, we've got to be in a position to win the minor premiership," Jennings said.
"So results need to go our way, but we've got to keep the pressure on them going into finals.
"Having Flynn back for a few weeks is a massive inclusion, we're lucky to have a guy of Kookaburras quality to come into the team."
Jennings has been left to rue Uni's lack of consistency, both in terms of personnel on the field and scoring chances created.
Uni showed their immense game-winning potential with a 7-nil thumping of Wests early in the season, before grinding out a scratchy 4-1 in their most recent showdown.
"There's no doubt we have to be more consistent," Jennings said.
"Wests were leading for a lot of the game last time we met and it took a 10-minute burst for us to take control.
"We can't expect to have everything click for a few minutes every week, so we'll need to deliver more complete performances."
Callum Mackay has been a shining light for the Students this year, while Brock McCracken and Flynn's brother Heath Ogilvie continue to add touches of class.
Jennings is hoping to apply the blowtorch to Wests by securing short corner scoring opportunities.
"Heath is a quality flicker, so obviously we'll be looking to him when we get a short," Jennings said.
"But we've got to build up the pressure first.
"We've been starting a bit slow and allowing the other teams to get into the game early."
