The $360,000 park revamp, which will transform the popular play spot into one of Wollongong’s ‘‘regional playgrounds’’ like those at Towradgi and Thirroul, is due to reopen in about two weeks.
As well as the tower slide, the park will have two flying foxes, a hammock and a kids’ bike track.
The new equipment is also designed to be inclusive for all kids; the existing liberty swing will be placed next to the other swings and there will be steel listening dishes to encourage sensory play.
The playground update is park of a mini park overhaul by Wollongong City Council, which is also improving parking, pedestrian safety and landscaping at the popular beachside reserve.
Extra parking spaces are being added along the western side of Cliff Road, while a new, wider footpath is to be installed along the edge of the existing parking spaces, along with extra signage and lighting to improve safety.
