Tahlia Crinis, 30, is hosting a charity movie evening on July 15 and a music event with her DJ brother later in the year, with the end goal of raising $10,000 to assist children in the region who have struggled since the devastating earthquakes.
Miss Crinis had been signed up to take on the Everest Base Camp Trek for Children this year, though due to safety concerns she is still not sure if she will participate but still has a passion to help.
"My sister had a baby last New Year's Eve ... seeing how much a child relies on their mother for food I just couldn't imagine how you could wake up every morning and not know if you could feed your child," she said. "[As a result of the earthquakes] there's so many children on the other side of the world that don't have any of that, they're orphans and don't have access to clean water, and it kind of opened my eyes."
All proceeds from next week's screening of Magic Mike XXL at Greater Union Wollongong will go to the cause.
"It's important that we all do our little bit to improve the lives of some of the world's most vulnerable," she said.
The movie night kicks off at 6:45pm.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased from Frolic Girls Wollongong and The Palace Hair and Body Fairy Meadow.
